Mr. J. H. Newlyn, the farmer's friend, visited Methven last week, and delivered a lecture to a well-attended meeting in the schoolhouse, on his original and popular scheme for the reduction of interest on mortgages. A resolution was passed to the effect that the reduction of interest on mortgages would be beneficial to all classes of the Industrial community, and an influential Committee was appointed to co-operate with Mr. Newlyn in developing his scheme.
