* Victoria was separated from New South Wales, and became an independent colony on the 1st July, 1851. The first gold discoveries had been made a few months previously.

The revenue and expenditure are for the year ended 31st December until 1869, and for the year ended 30th June at the two subsequent periods.

A Mint was established in Melbourne in 1872, and 748,000 sovereigns were coined in that year. From the founding of the Mint to the end of 1879 gold coin to the value of £13,405,000 was issued therefrom; that issued in 1879 being of the value of £2,740,000.

Wool from the adjacent colonies is included in the export returns of all the years; such as came overland was not included in the import returns in 1869.
