Abstract of the Transactions and Progress of the South Australian Society of Arts for the year ending 30th September, 1872.

1. At a special general meeting of the members, hold on the 26th October last, W. Everard, Esq., J.P., was elected a Governor of the Institute.

2. The Fourteenth Annual Exhibition opened on the 15th December, 1871, and closed on the 5th February, 1872. The number of visitors amounted to 1,484.

3. The works entered to compete for the 73 prizes (amounting to £142 16s.) were in number 186. The successful competitors were—The Adelaide Photographic Company (4), Mesdamos W. H. Benham (4), Frampton (2), Scales (2),W. Wyatt (1), the Misses DeMole (1), I. A. Darling (3), A. C. Saunders (1), Light (1), H. L. Wyly (1), E. Thornber (1), J. A. Stuckey (1), S. B. Thornton (1), E. L. Gray (2), K. Brown(l), S. Kugelmann (2), E. Menpes (2), F. H. Little (1), E. Hall (2), and M. E. Bagot (1), Messrs. J. H. Biggs (5), T. Duryea (7), R. E. Minchin (7), W. P. Doll man (1), H. Jones (1), W. Bur-meister (1), T. Duryea, jun. (2), T. R. Russell (1), R. W. Hall (1), E. W. Minchin (1), M. L. Menpes (1),S. Wake (1), and A. E. Bonney (1).

4. The Art Union distribution consisted of 35 framed engravings. The following members drew prizes—His Excellency Sir J. Fergusson, Bart.; Mrs. R. Haussen, Mrs. J. Patterson, Messrs. J. P. Boucaut, M.P., J. Riddoch, M.P., W. D. Sanderson, H. Brown, S. Ormerod, A. Jones, E. S. Wigg, Jas. Scott, G. Boothby, J. T. Turnbull, C. Everett, C. Peacock, T. H. Artaud, J. P. Bickford, J. B. King, G. Ormerod, M.Clarke, W. W. Hughes. S.Cornish, H. Bickford, J. H. Biggs, C. H. Davis, Thos. Foale, Thos. King, W. D. Hewer, P. Rowland, S. Wilson, E. S. Davys, A. M. Simpson, W. G. Luxmoore, M. Goode, and G. W. Goyder.

5. The annual general meeting was held on the 15th February, at which the following were elected office-bearers for the year, viz.:—
