Charity Commission (including Endowed Schools Department) A portion of this increase to be recouped from the London Parochial Charity Funds. Stationery Office and Printing It is satisfactory to know that a Committee of Enquiry is looking into this overgrown and seriously large item, but reduction mainly hinges on the question as to whether Government letters and books are expected to contain twice as much paper as any other letters and books |

Secret Service Would such an item as this be tolerated in the accounts of any Municipal Corporation or other public body? And if not, why should it be necessary here? The taxpayer may depend upon it that any money taken down the back stairs in this way will not, in the long run, bring advantage to the public. But we feel convinced that many a serious abuse and gross job has screened itself from Parliament under such votes of secret carte blanche |
