Victoria '65 Supplement to Salient, Vol. 28, No. 1. 1965.

University Discipline

University Discipline

The regulations governing all disciplinary matters are clearly stated in the University Calendar. With incidents related to the Union, the Management Committee may discipline any student or club.

The Managing Secretary is authorised to exercise these disciplinary powers, but he must report any case to the Committee. In practice, he prefers to leave any necessary action for the Students' Association to handle with its own powers, although sometimes the Association will recommend a punishment to the Managing Secretary which can only be implemented under his authority.

The Association's powers cover a wider domain, but the forms of penalty are more limited. There' have been only a few cases, usually involving the Dining Room or Theatre, where the Managing Secretary has found it necessary to take action.

The disciplinary regulations found in the Calendar apply equally, of course, to all other parts of the University. Students must sign a declaration on enrolling that they will abide by the regulations. You would accordingly be well advised to read them.
