University Council Rules Us All

The University Council, the controlling body of the University, represents many bodies with an interest in the University. Its composition is laid down by statute:

Four members appointed by the Governor-General.

Six university graduates elected by a Court of Convocation.

Three professors of the University.

One member of the academic staff.

One represenative of the secondary schools.

The Vice-Chancellor.

One Students' Association representative.

One representative of the Wellington City Council.

The council also has the power to appoint up to three members to itself at its discretion.

It meets once a month in the Council Room on the first floor of the Robert Stout building, and under the provisions of the Public Bodies Meetings Act students are entitled try be present for such time as the Council is not in committee.
