Ephra Garrett

Ephra garrett is a fifth year arts student, part-timer and teacher, Was on wardrobe staff of Extrav. last year, and co-wardrobe mistress this year. Chief activities before that were with Salient—last year as sub-editor, this year arts editor. Has debated occasionally. After the Exec reshuffle recently, was co-opted as an Exec. member, where she has had a brief but illuminating experience. She is a member of the committee formed to study and revise the Bursaries scheme after NZUSA recently referred those proposals back to NZSLF. Chief interests are the implementing of a medical scheme, provision of more adequate bursaries, and would like to see more enthusiastic support for ISS.

Nominator: Audrey Cook.

Christine Harvie

Christine has been at Victoria since 1947 and hopes to complete B.Sc., this year. She has been on the committee of the S.C.M. and the Photographic Club for three years, and is a member of the Outdoor Basketball and Women's Gym Club. In 1947-48 she served on the I.S.S. Committee. As a member of the Exec. Chris would try to serve the students by improving the Cafeteria and other student facilities. She will back all projects which encourage closer relations between the staff and the students, and between students of this and other colleges.

Nominator: Lance Robinson.

Valerie Jones

Valerie jones is a fourth year Commerce student who has already completed her professional Accountancy Examination and is now finishing her B.Com. Val was Extrav Finance Controller 1950, plays hockey and Table Tennis and is a member of the Social Committee, that happy band of brothers and sisters who do so much to make the life of the student a rather more enjoyable one. And harking back to the "life of the student" we have there, one of the main points of policy that Val supports. A great factor recommending Val for election in her great ability for work and real enthusiasm to do all that she can for the Association, and to this end she advocates some immediate action on the many internal problems that face the Association e.g. the plans for the forthcoming student building.

One can have no hesitation in recommending Val for the Exec. both because of her general popularity and her suitability for the position.

Nominator: Audrey Cook.

Jeanette Murray

Fourth year Maths, student, she has been on the present Exec. for the past year, has acted on the Building Committee for the new Students' Building, and was an official Observer of the Exec. to the NZUSA Conference: Her activities have been and are widely sporting, including Women's President of the Swimming Club 1949-50. Extrav 1948-49, Ski Club, and at present has been Secretary of the Tramping Club 1949-50.

As a present Exec. Member she has seen the necessity for having more corporate life in the College, involving more encouragement and support for clubs, more staff-student functions, and she says she will support any move to make Victoria a more healthy, intellectual, sporting, comfortable and popular institution.

Nominator: L. B. Piper.

Jocelyn Murray

Jocelyn started at VUC in 1947 as a part-time student; she is now full-time and hopes to complete her B.A. next year. In 1947-48 she was at Wellington Teachers' Training College. For the last two years she has been a member of the E.U. Exec. and the I.S.S. committee. She was Undergraduates Supper Controller for 1950. As far as the executive policy goes, she is definitely in favour of doing something about the Compulsory Medical Scheme and of all endeavours to improve the Cafeteria Service and of encouraging closer links between students and staff here and and with students in other colleges.

Nominator: Conrad Bollinger.

Nancy Pearce

Nancy has been at Victoria for four years and is at present doing History—Honours. She has always maintained a wide interest in student affairs and on numerous occasions has been a willing worker for the Association.

Nancy takes part in many aspects of Varsity life. She plays hockey and tramps with some vigour. She has been a committee member of the Debating and Historical Societies, and is interested in the Drama Club. Since 1947 Nancy has been in Extrav. as a member of the cast and latterly as one of those indefatigable girls of the Wardrobe department. Last Christmas she went to Australia under the Student Exchange scheme. Nancy, I'm certain, will be a worthwhile member of the Executive, because she is such an energetic worker.

Nominator: C. G. Pottinger.
