Audrey Cook

Audrey is a member of the retiring Executive (co-opted November, 1948). Audrey is a fourth-year, parttime science student. She has been on the Drama Club Committee 1947-49, the Women's Outdoor Basketball Committee 1947-48, she represented VUC in basketball at Easter Tournament 1947-49, took part in the last two Extravs and is generally round and about. She was also Undergrad. Supper Controller for 1949.

She is interested in closer co-operation with overseas students and hearer home, the promotion of more interest and support in the so-called "cultural" clubs of the College, especially the Drama Club.

Her reason for standing is interest In student affairs and welfare generally.

Daphne Davey

Daphne is a fourth-year Arts student and is likely to be around Victoria for some years yet. She is an active member of the Tramping, Ski and Basketball Clubs. She has been on "Salient" since 1947 and this year is Sports Editor. Assisted in the Information Bureau at Winter Taurnament 1947 and ran the Easter Tournament information Bureau this year. Is also a member of the Social Committee. She has taken part in Extrav. since 1946.

She would like to see better facilities for sport in the College end also greater student participation in College sports. Also is keen to see cafe and common rooms improved. She feels that all student affairs should be brought to the notice of all students so that they would be encouraged to take an active part in student affairs.

Daphne Fletcher

Daphne, now in her fifth year at Varsity, is a full-time student studying for Master of Commerce. She is interested in the Drama Club and has been Treasurer since 1948. For the last three years she has been backstage with Extrav. assisting with the costuming and dressing. In the sporting field her main interest is in tramping and she has helped with the Memorial Hut. Daphne has no political affiliations but believes in mutual tolerance among the various shades of political opinion. She would like to see some Improvement in the College facilities for students and hopes that an early start will be made on the new Student Association Building. She favours closer unity between the University and the community and contact with other universities and students, such as the Australian Vacation Exchange Scheme.

Barbara Holm

Barbara Holm has had a year on the Executive and is still interested In student activities and business. A third-year Arts student, she has taken an active interest in various College activities. SCM, Table Tennispage break and Social Committal 1848; Philosophical Society, Tournament Billeting Committee 1949. Has been an active member and team captain in the Hockey Club. Helped with accompanying for Extrav. 1948-49.

Is on the Sub-committee working for a Common Room, and is enthusiastic about the project. Is interim cafe controller, and temporarily VUC Officer for the Australian Vacation Employment Exchange.

Still interested in the progress of Student Union Building, Student Hostels, and the improvement of our present facilities, is anxious to see VUC students take an active part in NZUSA Congress and in the Australian Vacation Exchange Scheme, and would like to see more students take a continual and active interest in their College and Association.

Diane Martin

Diane Martin is a second-year Arts student, part-time this year. For the past year she has been Secretary of the SCM. She is interested in the Drama, Literary and Photographic Clubs. She attended the University Congress at Curious Cove this year. She would like to see: Schemes for further student hostels; a more equable distribution of grants between cultural and sporting clubs; full support from students'and direct Executive interest for ISS; staff. student relationships more genuine than the formal academic relationship existing, at present.

Gwenda Martin

Gwenda came to VUC in 1944 to do Med. Intermediate, is now a second-year Training College student, and after a minor excursion into Arts last year, hopes to complete B.Sc. in 1949. Member of the Tramping Club, Biology Society, Debating Society since 1944, and of backstage staff in the last six Extravs. (was Wardrobe Mistress 1948 and shared the position with Daphne Fletcher this year). She swam for Victoria at Auckland 1947, was on ing Billeting Committee for Winter Tournament 1947. sometime member of Gramophone and Swimming Committees, "Salient" 1947-49, Debating Committee 1948-49, Socialist Club Committee 1949 and ISS Committee 1948-June '49.

Gwenda is interested in resurrecting the Medical and Departmental Committee schemes, in accelerating the Bursaries Scheme, and in publicising the hostel dwellers' miseries. She thinks Victoria should participate in ISS, WFDY and IUS. She has at least some ideas to alleviate the continual cafeteria crisis.

Jeanette Murray

Jeanette is a third-year full-time Science (Maths) student finishing B.Sc. this year. Her activities have been and are widely sporting, including Women's President of the Swimming Club. Extrav 1948-49 (Wardrobe '48) and Ski Club. At present she is a sub-editor of "Salient" and Secretary [unclear: dfr] the Tramping Club.

She wants to see the College have more corporate me, involving more encouragement and support for clubs and more staff-student meetings, so will support any move to make Victoria a more healthy, intellectual, sporting, comfortable and popular institution.

June Scott

In her third year, was for two years committee member of the Women's Basketball Club, playing in Tournament 1948 and 49. This, year she is an active member of Swimming Club, Drama Club, Literary Society and Social Committees, and of the Tennis Club. She hopes to finish BA this year.

June feels that affairs of the Stud. Assn. do not get enough publicity among the students, e.g.. organisation of sub-committees and tournament.

To prevent clubs becoming cliquey, she feels two years are ample for anyone to be on a committee. Is a firm believer in Congress and student exchange. She thinks that sporting clubs, if they get the support they should have, could lead Wellington sporting circles, but that cultural clubs must lead in Wellington cultural circles.

Gillian Standring

Gillian Standring is a full-time student, second year, advahdng in History. Last year she was a parttime student working as a librarian, in a Gov. Dept. She is an active member of the Women's Hockey Club, the SCM, Drama Club and Charter Society. If elected, she hopes to further the exchange of overseas students with New Zealand. Will try to build up the corporate life within the university, also to assist with the 1949 Building Fund and ISS.

Judith Wild

Judith Wild is a third-year fulltime Arts student. She has taken part in Extrav. is Secretary of the Literary Society and would like to see the interests of the cultural clubs supported more energetically by the Students' Association.
