Barney Butchers

Barney Butchers—a part-time student doing Dip-Ed. graduated in 1941. He spent the, following four years, in the Navy and returned to complete M.Sc. as a full-time rehab, student in 1946, at the same time acting as an assistant tutorial lecturer in Chemistry. Barney took part in Extravs in 1938-39 and 1946; and is a past or present active member of the Football, Tramping, Dramatic and Photographic Clubs, also the Chemistry Society. He is this year Secretary of the Tramping Club and has led at various times major Varsity mountaineering expeditions to Ruapehu, Godley Glacier, Wilkin Valley in the Otago Alps, and last Christmas to the Spenser Ranges in Nelson.

A member of the Exec. 1947 business manager for Spike 1947, and has undertaken the same job for Spike in 48.

He would like to see a more efficient liaison between students and clubs, and the executive, and between the university and the press.
