Wellington Repertory Theatre — Terrence Rattigan
Wellington Repertory Theatre
Terrence Rattigan
Playwright Terrence Rattigan was the firm favourite of the British postwar theatre era. While America thrilled to Hollywood's frivolous '50's movies, Britons (not to mention we colonials) eagerly absorbed Rattigan's buoyant comic plays. But alas Look Back In Anger and The Angry Young Men duly arrived on the scene in 1956, and since then Rattigan's work has been dismissed as somewhat passe and lacking in depth. Hence Director Fergus Dick's concern to rediscover this man's work. I believe that Repertory Theatre's current production of Who Is Sylvia? more than successfully proves the validity of this concern.
