Eating Out — The Italian Job

Eating Out

The Italian Job

As promised, we finally make our way to a real restaurant

Guido's

38 Cambridge Terrace. Next to Sawyer Honda. Takeaway service also.

Hours:

Monday 5 to 10pm

Tuesday to Thursday 12 to 2pm and 5 to 11pm

Friday to Saturday 12 to 2pm and 5 to 12 midnight

Sunday 12 to 2pm and 5 to 9pm

A small Italian restaurant with a bit of flair. The main courses are quite dear, but in the absence of a minimum charge you can order the same tastes as an entree and thereby have a wider range between you.

Menu
Pizza 10 different sorts in threesizes. Plain to elaborate.
Lasagna Entree 3.00 Main 5.50
Cannelloni
Ravioli Bolognese 3.30 5.70
Ravioli Pomodoro

Immediately that you go inside you know that you are at someone's place. Though the walls and carpet are solid Australian Home and Garden bathroom green with framed pop art fixtures, and the table cloths plastic, it's just nice to be there.

All the many pizzas are made from scratch while you wait. Try a Marinara (seafood) pizza and you should be back for more. Open late at night at the weekends it's a good place to go for a meal after the flicks or merely a snack and coffee. Also being a take away you can have the same beautifully prepared stuff in the steamy privacy of your mother's car somewhere further afield.

I consider the house speciality to be their cannelloni so I make the suggestion that you may like to stroll along there after a movie and discuss the thing over some cannelloni and a couple of cups of cappuccino rather than rushing in some time before eight.

So what is the difference between the merely Ok and the restaurant that you recommend to your friends and go back to yourself? Try out Guido's some time and it'll probably become clear.

Note: We are preparing a complete guide to all the watering holes in and around the University. If you know of any place that has regular meals or tea and coffee available, eg SCM Cabin, please send info, to VUW food, C/- Editor Salient.
