Travelling
Travelling
I wrote a review on Jan Morris's travel book Destinations in Salient's first 1981 publication. It's a magnificent collection of Morris's essays from "Rolling Stone" spanning the 1970's. Bob Jones' travel book Travelling - An Entertainment" is something else again. It's self-serving and silly. It's really just a book of lists - all about Jones. All about Jones' "well known" friends: (Ron Brierley "the least pretentious man (except when discussing wine) that I have ever met") and how many towns and cities Jones has been to and swum about. (Jones's "quirk" when visiting a new destination is to swim its main waterway, Washington DC's Potomac and Vienna's Danube are examples.)
