Library Hours 1981
During term and until end of final examinations
Weekdays: Monday to Thursday, 8.30am to 11.00pm; Friday. 8.30am to 6.00pm.
Weekends: Saturday (Term 1). 10.00am to 1.00pm; Saturday (Term 2 & 3), 10.00am to 5.30pm. Sunday, 1.00pm to 5.30pm.
May & August vacations: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 600pm; Saturday (May), 10.00am to 1.00pm; Saturday (August). 10 00am to 5.30pm; Sunday, 1.00pm to 5.30pm.
Public Holidays: Closed except Anzac Day, Easter Tuesday, Queen's Birthday: Open 1,00pm to 5.30pm; Labour Day; Open 8.30am to 11.00pm.
The library is also open for extra hours on some Fridays and Sundays before examinations. Details of these, and any other changes to library hours, will appear on the Library notice board in the entrance foyer and in a notice in Salient.

Maori Education Foundation
All students of Maori descent who attend university are elgible to apply to the Foundation for assistance. Student Adviser for 1981 is Mary Poipoi, Maori Studies Department. 36 Kelburn Parade. Application forms and information are readily available. Feel free to drop in and discuss any problems with Mary.
Science Students
The 1981 Orientation Programme will begin on Wednesday 18 March. The Science Faculty has cancelled all first year timetabled commitments for the afternoon and you are expected to attend the Programme which has been planned to Help you improve your performance as a science student.
Registration 1.30 to 2.00pm Lecture Block foyer.
Orientation 2.00 to 3.00pm LB3. Refreshments 3.00 to 3.30pm LB foyer. Orientation groups 3.30 to 5.00pm Science Departments; 4.00 to 5.00pm Intermediate students (Separate programme) Wine and Cheese 5.00 to 6.00pm LB mezza-nine.
The registration cost of $2 includes the cost of the Handbook, ("Improving your performance as a Science Student"), Refreshments and the Wine and Cheese Social. Otherwise the cost of the Handbook will be $1.50, available after 18 March, from the Science Faculty Clerk, on production of a ticket purchased from the Cashier. Robert Stout.
Arrangements will be made for small groups of students to meet weekly with a member of staff, after 18 March, for the remainder of the first term. These meetings are intended to help your development as a science student and are entirely voluntary.

Study Methods Development
This is the title of a series of videotapes presented by Dr Alex Main, Adviser on Educational Methods, Centre for Educational Practice. University of Strathclyde, Scotland. The videotapes will be shown in the Cotton Bulding Lecture Theatre (CB114), and repeated on the first five Wednesdays of the first term.
First year Science students should fry to see all five videotapes before attending their Science Faculty Orientation Programme on Wednesday, 18 March.
On each Wednesday, the videotapes will be shown in two continuous sessions.
12.10pm Personal Timetabling (15 min); Using Your Time (10 min); Some NZ Student Experiences (25 min).
1.10pm Reading (15 min); Note-taking (20 mm); Essay Writing(14 min).
Admission Free
Wednesdays 4, 11, 18, 25 March and 1 April.
