More Opposition to Gay Rights

More Opposition to Gay Rights

Dear Editor,

While I don't agree with all his arguments, I would like to congratulate the author of last week's letter criticising recent attempts to glamorize homosexuality (Angry Liberated Man). I too share his concern with such trends based on the fact that I find the act biologically and morally objectionable.

While I feel that individuals should take a compassionate view towards such people, I think that encouraging and promoting such behaviour is harmful to both the individual as well as to society.

Homosexuality is not as mystical as some would make it out to be. Psychiatrists (such as Freud) have long known that young males tend to feel affection towards males during the middle part of their formative years, often idolizing and emulating them. However, as the normal male matures physically and psychologically such attitudes are redirected towards the opposite sex.

Homosexuals are individuals who are stunted in this natural progression usually for some psychological reason, often beyond their own comprehension (rarely by freedom of choice). The real crime of certain recent movements, such as Gay Liberation, is that they make the homosexual resigned to the fact that he can never change. The recent findings by American sex therapists, Masters and Johnson reveal the fallacy of this approach. They found that almost 90 percent of the homosexuals who were willing to attempt to overcome their psychological barriers, could do so.

If human behaviour had no effect on other human beings behaviour, then any type of human behaviour might be acceptable. Unfortunately, such is not the case. There is enough confusion over normal human sexuality, those that are promoting or encouraging homosexuality are only encouraging such confusion. Compassion and understanding — yes, promotion — no.
