Salient. Official Newspaper of the Victoria University Students' Association. Vol 42 No. 21. September 3 1979

As Bad as 'Truth'

As Bad as 'Truth'

Dear Sir,

To Whom it May Concern;

We the undersigned, while noting the pitiful and ineffectual leadership of the association since the forced resignation of the President by the Executive on 31 July call on Mr Andrew Tees to reconsider his position and to put himself forward for the presidential vacancy at the forthcoming by-election, failing that we call on all responsible students to vote No Confidence in executive member Caroline Massof who at the time of writing is the only candidate for the vacant Presidential position for the rest of the 1979. This having been done, we would then further call on Mr Tees to take up the position of President for the rest of 1979.

We issue this call not out of any personal animosity for Ms. Massof but out of a firm belief that she, is neither competent or experienced enough to represent the students at Victoria University. In particular we note with grave concern that the SRC saw fit not top elect Ms Massof to the position of President nor did a subsequent SRC meeting see fit to reserve it's previous decision to hold a full by-election.

It is patently obvious that there is a chance that Ms Massof may be elected because she is the only candidate rather than having the general confidence of students in spite of the fact that in effect two SRC meetings have rejected the notion of electing the executive candidate, Ms Massof to the Presidency.

We appeal to students to consider these facts and vote accordingly. We call on other students to sign here at the bottom of this letter and send it into the 'Salient' office forthwith and thus summon Mr Tees to return to the job he has been given successive mandates to do at a previous executive election and at a Special General Meeting in May.

We appeal to the Editor of Salient to print this in full in the next available issue of the paper.

Donald Hartington,

Jan Aitken,

Flatmate (who prefers to remain anonymous),

D.J.W. Alexander.

PS. We will be exceedingly surprised if you prim this. Normally we couldn't care less what happens to the Students Association but in this unusual set of circumstances, we do. Many apologies for the poor typing.
