Interested in the erosion of civil liberties, Marx, Rowling, Muldoon, the Values Party, or international events? The University provides an opportunity to explore your interests. There are numerous clubs which are holding Orientation activities which all students no matter what their level of understanding, are invited to attend.

In the first week of Orientation there are 2 major activities............ On Wed 28 Feb. the first Student Representative Council (SCR) meeting will be held from 12-2 p.m. in the Union Hall. The meetings are held fortnightly and constitute the main policy - making body of the Association. Any student can move motions, speak to them and vote. If you are concerned about any subject from the harshness of toilet paper, or the level of student allowances, to the Vietnamese invasion of Kampuchea, then come along to the first SRC. If you get bored you can always leave, but at least you can say you've made an effort to take part in the decisions and policy of the Student Association. After all you pay $43.00, you might as well control what happens to it.

Thursday 1 March at 11.00 in the Union Hall features a special forum entitled "The State of the Nation", and discussed the present New Zealand situation, from wide ranging points of view. Bob Jones will be giving his opinion of the state of the economy, along with National and Labour MPs and members of the Wellington Marxist Leninist Organisation, Hart, and the Council to Civil Liberties. If you would like to air your views, or hear other people's, come along. The forum is organised by the Progressive Students Alliance Club which will be having its organizing meeting on the Tuesday 27 Feb. at 12.00 in the Lounge.

Thursday 8 March is International Working Women's Day and to celebrate the event, the Progressive Student Alliance is organising a forum in the Union Hall, 12-2 p.m. 'A Womans place is in the house of Representatives'. The speakers will be a member of parliament, and representatives from Working Womens Alliance, and Concerned Parents Association. On the evening of March 8 from 7.30 - 12.00 a social will be held with a film, supper, and general alcoholic entertainment in the Lounge and Smoking Room.

Throughout the first two weeks of Orientation there will be various political student club meetings. Watch out for them. Your contribution will always be welcome.
