Drama

Drama

Orientation 1979 features a variety of cultural performances including dance groups, poetry reading, and theatrical groups.

Debbie and the Dum-Dums

A highlight of the Orientation programme will be a theatrical group called Debbie and the Dum Dums. The group is supported by the New Zealand Arts Council, and the New Zealand Students Arts Council is bringing it to all campuses.

The group's material comes from their previous experience with street cabaret and rock theatre. It is hoped that the group's performance will raise the political and artistic consciousness of the audience it plays to, and it will, rest assured, be a dynamic, visual treat.

There are four actors in the group - all whom have extensive experience not only theatrically but musically also, so we should see an exciting professional performance. The actors have been working full-time over the past few weeks rehearsing and preparing for the shows. An incredible amount of work has been put into them, and they will certainly create an impact on campus.

There are two performances of Debbie and the Dum Dums - one outside in the quadrangle (if wet it will be held in the lounge and smoking room) between 2.00 pm and 2.30 pm, and one evening show in the lounge and smoking room, from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm. Both are on Wednesday 28 Feb. There will be a small cover charge of. 50c for the evening performance.

Even if you are not into drama, don't miss out on this amazing group you might not get another chance.
