Tetanus Protection

When did you last have a Tetanus shot?

These are required at 10 yearly intervals throughout life and an extra booster is given at the time of a penetrating injury, if more than a year has elapsed since the last booster.

The need for Tetanus protection has been recently highlighted by a case in Wellington. Tetanus has a high fatality rate and minor injuries which might be considered unimportant can cause death.

In the last 10 years there have been 224 cases reported in New Zealand and 19 of these have been fatal.

Report to Student Health if you need protection. There is a special nurses clinic every Thursday afternoon when no appointment is necessary. If this is not convenient alternative arrangements can always be made.
