August in PN

If you remember our article earlier in the year — "May in Dunedin" — then you'll remember about NZUSA's May Council. NZUSA has two Councils per year where all policy and appointments are made. This years August Council, to be held at Massey University from the 18th - 21st August, will make the infighting and mudslinging of May pale by comparison. For a start there will be the election of next years officers. There are four positions up for grabs. These are full-time positions with salaries around $5,000. All the pre-requisites are a bit of knowledge in the respective areas, and a fervent desire to promote the material and political interests of students. The positions are :-
  • President (Jack of all trades and top dog in NZUSA)
  • Education Vice President (Bursaries and assessment work)
  • General Vice President (National Affairs, student welfare and accomodation).
  • International Vice President (Promoting International issues on campus).

If anyone is interested in any of these positions, write to The President, NZUSA, PO Box 9047, Courtenay Place, or ring her at 856 669.

Victoria will be sending a delegation of about 15 people to Council which will include delegates to National International, Womens, Welfare and Accomodation, and Finance and Administration Commissions. All these positions will be filled up at SRC on Wednesday. If interested contact Lindy Cassidy or Salient (we'll tell you the gory details).

With Canterbury giving it's notice of withdrawal from NZUSA it should be a lively Council. All students are free and welcome to attend to watch 50 or so student politicians battle it out for four days. Enquire at the Studass Office about travel and accomodation if interested.
