Maggie Burke

Maggie Burke

Maggie Burke Dancers — Christchurch

Formed for "Popco" in 1972. Run as a cooperative of people of diverse talents. Produced the original three act production "Dance Spiral" in 1976. Teachers are Maggie Burke, Gillian Cairns, Jane Barrer, judi Brookfield and Karen Murray.

Deidre Tarrant Dance Theatre

Composed of students training in Classical, Modern and Jazz idioms and has a variety of programmes which it has presented wherever a receptive audience can be found.

Val Deakin Dance Theatre — New Plymouth

A unique achievement in a small centre, the Val Deakin Dance Theatre presents programmes of ballet and modern dance to the smaller centres where tours do not normally go.

Dance Arts — Dunedin

Helen Oldfield and Nancy Buttenheim are lecturers in Dance at the Otago University Physed School and both are involved in the expansion of dance arts in a variety of ways.

Impulse — Wellington

The first fully professional Dance Company, Impulse is in its second year. Composed of only five dancers, and one business manager, they choreograph, produce, administer, and tour, presenting original beautifully finished dance to schools and the public.

Limbs — Auckland

Presenting dance in modern and jazz idioms with subjects varying from humorous to semi-serious, and music ranging from Satie to the Rolling Stones. Limbs is Kilda Northcote, Julie Dunningham, Debbie McGulloch, Mary-Jane O'Reilly, Mark Baldwin, and Chris Jannides.

Movement Theatre — Auckland

Affiliated to the Auckland University Students Assoc, Movement Theatre is endeavouring to present dance as a creative art form which can communicate with a wide variety of people on different levels. Artistic Director — Sue Jordon—Bell.

The Dunedin Dance Theatre / Shona Dunlop Dance Studio

Employing a diversity of ideas in the programme the dances vary from serious to comic and from stylisation to satirical.

Vic Dance Theatre

Vic Dance Theatre is a small informal group which meets once a week at the Victoria University Gymnasium. The group is lead by Diana Jones and has spent this year exploring various dance techniques. Two of the pieces shown have been choreographed by the group under the guidance of Dianna Jones ; Rapprochements by Robyn Moss and Ross Wells ; and the Theme from Rocky by Kathy McCullough.

Also included in the programme are Colleen Anstey, the N2 Ballet Co., Interaction, Dance Centre, and the Auckland University Dancers, Ethnic dance will be represented by contributions from : Mrs Balachandran (Indian), Faye Johnson (Flamenco), and Charlene Gregory (Hawaiian).
