More Free Time!

More Free Time!

Dear Editor,

James Bertram said on TV last night that while studying at Oxford Uni England in the '30s the morning was devoted to lectures Or the writing of essays, the afternoon was devoted to the pursuit of some sport And (for God's sake) the evenings were Free! Those same people who led such a time free from work are now the people who are our lecturers and who expect us to attend lectures in the morning And afternoon, and to write the week's essay in the evenings. Where is our sport and free time???

Oh yes, I know the argument that we're privileged to go to university and so we should work as hard as we can while there to pay back our debt to the taxpayers of N.Z. but so was James Bertram a bloody privileged person. He had to pay back a Rhodes Schoalrship!!!

I thought slavery was abolished in the 19th century, but it seems academic slavery has just begun We've got to abolish it and return to the age of Free Time!!!

Yours,

ces,
