Godzone Under Scrutiny
One bloody good thing that I felt about the conference was the fact that some of our home grown political and social experts have considered New Zealand worthy of study. Whether it is because of overseas people in our Pols departments or maybe the fact that people feel that "I'm all right Jack", but it is perfectly obvious that very little decent work has come out of New Zealand's political economy and its development since colonisation.
One of the reasons for this new interest, I think, is the increasing failure of NZ capitalism since WWII. This is especially true over the last 5 years. What I am saying is that studies have been initiated because there are big problems that New Zealand faces as a society - problems that arise from within.
