Oppose Apartheid Stop the Tour

Most probably you have never heard of OUSTTM (pronounced oust'em). In the next few months, if they have anything to do with it, you will be hearing a lot.

OUSTTM was formed a month ago at a Sharpeville Day meeting called by Wellington HART branches to co-ordinate stop the tour activity in Wellington.

It is strictly concerned with stopping the All Black tour to South Africa planned for June this year. And when the tour is stopped. OUSTTM will cease to exist.

There is a full-time coordinator - John McDavitt, and several committees, whose job it is to initiate activities. These activities (and most publicity) will centre round three main events:
1)a meeting with Trevor Richards as main speaker tentatively set down for the Concert Chamber on May 3rd.
2)the All Black trials on May 8th.
3)a massive 'mobilization' on May 28 - (ie a series of organised marches throughout the country).

As John said, if half the ideas mooted get put into practise, the tour will be stopped for sure. It's simply a matter of really arousing the consciousness of New Zealanders. Thats why OUSTTM is trying to reach as broad a base of people as possible.

Support is to be elicited from Trade Unions; schools, teachers colleges and universities; churches; and Labour and Values parties.

But all this needs man-power, and its on the availability of people willing to help that the cancellation of the tour depends. If you want something done, come and help do it.

There are fortnightly meetings, most probably up at the University Union. The next is at 2pm on Easter Sunday (ie April 18th). There are also working bees, at the HART office on the 1st floor of 50 Courtenay Place, every Monday from 5.30 - 730. And John McDavitt will be at the HART office all day every week day (Phone 851-973 or 859-246 for any queries, offers etc).
