And Poetry Corner

And Poetry Corner

those hills are only background
— I've never been there
and all the audience here is on the stage
awkward as hell, and no-one knowing the lines
and everyone squinting into the shade
for his own empty stall maybe there's no script at all
(maybe it's just creative drama)
and to whom in the wings are
those people there talking?
Mr Producer, producer, produce yourself,
please come on.

Martin Doyle

Treat me easy
I'm a sleasy bloke who's come in
from the booze
You could do wonders for me
reform me
deform me old bogey self
hate the bugaboos in the mirror (evil
spirits staring sneering at me) having a
close shave with death.

Martin Doyle

There was a sleepy boy on a tandem
who had such crashes to land 'im
in the croak house, now and then,
till one day the doc, like an icicle,
said "you have totally damaged your dream cycle".

Martin Doyle

see this revolver, mate?
hate to
send you a bullet
just need to pull it by the trigger
bigger
than a man
and you'd simply die
dye!
dye the carpet red
Red Square in our
own living room
Living tomb
gloom
soon dining with God in the upstairs
dining room

Martin Doyle

Until that time when you crop up
the streets are a waste
people paste themselves
like bills
advertising something else not themselves
though you do give me
the creeps
leaps in the dark
laughs cries
though no...................lies
a person in the cab of a high crane
you winch another (no bother, mate)
out of the grave
save the damned
crammed
in rules
fools in a shit can
like a labrador tearing after the stick
stick at nothing
if your heart's not in it
ad finitum otherwise
not nice
after extradition from child mind
can't find a good bottle
thoughts grind my teens like coffee beans
