— Gov't Suspend 1,000 Students' Study Awards:
More than 1,000 students had their government scholarships suspended following the Dec. 13, 1974 student demonstrations over rising living costs. In Kuala Lumpur and other Malaysian cities, according to Education Minister Mahathir Mahammed. He said in a television interview last night the gov't would reconsider its action if the students could give assurances that they would reform and concentrate solely on their studies.
Note: The students were demonstrating in support of the hunger march of the Baling people and not merely because of the 'rising living costs in K.L. and other cities' as the Straits Times suggested.
