T.P.A. Squat

T.P.A. Squat

Family Living in Squalid Slum in Newtown

The Wellington Tenant's Protection Association has recently been investigating a case where a family of husband, wife, and four small children are living in a one room flat in Newtown. The room used as bedroom and lounge for the six is a poor conversion of a basement and is only 10′ by 6′. Nowhere is the ceiling higher than six and a half feet. There is also a kitchen, 6′ by 4′, a tiny shower, and a wash hand basin. The family shares an outside toilet with another flat.

The family has been in this place for eight months, but has tried to find another. They look at the paper every day, but at each place they have tried the landlord has said "sorry no kids". The tenants have not received any help from any government department.

In an attempt to gain them a decent place to live, T.P.A. is organising a squat this Saturday in an empty house which is being used as a store. Anyone interested in helping please phone Hillary, Felicity, or Mike at 51542 or Kevin Wright at 863405.
