Photo of student meeting in progress

Last Thursday at SRC over 500 Law and Commerce students, half of them recovering from hangovers after the Law Faculty evening the night before, where 1200 cans of beer were emptied so that they could then be used as ammunition (windows in the building were broken, nearby road signs were removed and one student was taken to hospital with a severely cut neck after a glass door was slammed shut in his face and broke) - all voted for a re-institution of "procesh", the yearly student rampage through the streets of Wellington which last year resulted in bills being received by the Association for damage for about $1000 to all the hotels on the route, threats of actions by citizens for assault and an incredible amount of bad publicity for students.

At the meeting such statements as "Last year it might have been shabby, but this year we're sure it will be different", "It's the one day for a bit of fun out of all the thousands of boring ones in the year" and "We've tried thinking about public opinion in the past and where did it get us, what we want now is a bit of fun", were really unnecessary to sway the meeting all of whom came with just one aim, as was shown by the rapid emptying of the room as soon as the motion had been passed.
