Dave Shand Nominated For Varsity Council

Dave Shand has been nominated by the executive of the Students' Association as its second representative on the University Council.

Also applying for the position were the president of the Students' Association, Doug White, a former co-editor of Salient, Barry Saunders; and another student who had not previously been active in student politics, Peter Kyle.

Dave will be co-opted at the next meeting of the council. He is 23 and treasurer and a vice-president of the New Zealand University Students' Association.

He has represented N.Z.-U.S.A. at conferences in the Netherlands and Kenya. Last year he was awarded a United States State Department student leader tour of the United States.

He has been public relations officer and treasurer of the B.U.W.S.A. He has a B.Com. in economics and accountancy and is now doing honours.

Next year he will return to a job in the Treasury and will enroll in a master's degree course.
