People Milling around outside the Rankine Brown building for about half an hour around noon on Friday when a fire alarm sounded in the building. Evacuation was, on the whole speedy, although a small number of people did not leave the building at all. Fire engines arrived, and after some delay at a post erected to discourage the entry of cars, drove into the grounds. Firemen could find no fire. Mr G. Culliford, Vice Principle of the University, said the fire brigade had a key to release the post, and could easily have knocked it over anyway.
