Original Sin

We are naked, vocal gorillas,
Dangerous creatures of foresight and greed,
Alive with ambition—constantly searching,
Watchfully moving to battle
For food, for land, for wealth.
And even too for love
We challenge, fight, and trample down with
Heavy, hobnailed feet, the softly pulsing lives of
Those who might have stayed our vicious grasp—
Triumphant seizure of the insensate goal.
