Perpendicular Thoughtwaves
sand the colour of dead grass
dead grass the colour of sand
what is lovlier than
a house in the dark forest
a red flower growing on a dusty road
a foal running in the storm
a lark singing in a barren sky
a thrush etching its song onto the hollow morning
against a pale wind
or a crack in the footpath shaped like a smile
a red letterbox glittering in the sun
after the rain.
