Course coming in journalism

Course coming in journalism

NZRSPA Reporter

The post-graduate course in journalism at Canterbury University may be de-laved until 1969 because a suitable senior lecturer has not been found. It was originally planned to start the course in 1968.

The Vice-Chancellor (Professor N. C. Phillips) says the position of senior lecturer was advertised in New Zealand. the United Kingdom and the United States, and applications were received from all those and from one or two others

After careful consideration of the candidates and some negotiations with one of them, the university felt unable to make an appointment.

It has decided, therefore, to re-advertise the post.

"This delay may unfortunately mean that the course will not begin until the academic year of 1969 instead of ; 1968. as originally planned; but we are convinced that, in the interests of both the profession and the university, postponment is preferable to the alternative of launching the course in circumstances less favourable than could be wished." the Vice-Chancellor said.

"Meanwhile, the Tasman Pulp and Paper Company has made a contribution of ?1000, which the university greatly appreciates. toward the strengthening of the university library in the field of journalism and public communication "
