NZUSA elects new officers

NZUSA elects new officers

Two new members were elected last term to the New Zealand University Students Association executive.

After what President Ross Mountain termed "an extremely close vote," Paddy Finnigan, president of Otago, and John Scott, ex-vice-president of Massey, were selected to fill two vacant executive positions.

Six candidates, among them Vic's Mike Hirschfeld, stood for the positions. Others were Dick Wood, past president of Auckland; Dennis Pezaro, past president of Otago; and Canterbury's past president, John Anderson.

The elections were the first to be held since Easter Council, when a requirement that executive members be resident in Wellington was dropped.

Ross Mountain told Salient it was hoped that the removal of this restriction would make the NZUSA more representative. He said members felt wider representation would outweigh costs of transporting out-of-town executive mem-bers to and from Wellington.
