Time Returns

Time Returns

Sirs,—We were interested to read the letter headed "Time Passes" in your journal Salient, and would like to quote the written comment from Mr. Bryan Huntley, Time's South Pacific Production Manager, who is in New Zealand during the initial period of printing.

"I have read the letter in Salient and while I think the comments by G.E.J.L. are justified in reference to some of the earlier New Zealand-printed issues, I feel there are no grounds for concern that this initial variance from our quality requirements is liable to continue or for the presumption that Time Incorporated has had to settle for a lower technical printing standard in New Zealand than we demand elsewhere in the world. On the contrary, though we expect "teething troubles" with new printing locations, we have been agreeably surprised at the speed with which New Zealand Newspapers have met our stringent requirements in the areas of quality, production and plant organisation. We are thoroughly satisfied at the progress made so far, and have every confidence in the ability of New Zealand Newspapers to maintain a standard of printing of Time magazine consistent with the standards we have set. (Sgd.) B. D. Huntly."

We welcome the opportunity to reply to your correspondent and extend a cordial welcome to him, and any others at the University to visit our plant and examine the progress of Time magazine as it is handled here.

Yours faithfully,

J. C. Brown. Manager, N.Z. Newspapers Ltd.
