The Student's Association at the S.G.M. on September 29. increased it's fee from £5 to £8/10/-. This constitutional amendment was passed by a majority of 84 votes to 17 after three hours discussion. The mover of the motion explained to the meeting that the main reasons for the Increase were the need to pay off the loan on the present building, to provide funds for the second floor of the present Student Union Building, to accumulate funds for a new Union building when the present one becomes inadequate by 1970. to buy real estate for hostels, and to make "Salient" "free".

Ten shillings per head will go towards the free distribution of "Salient" and the "Salient" scholarship. This scholarship, worth £200, is to be awarded to the editor.

A statement to "Salient" from the Executive says: "This executive is delighted at the vote of confidence which students have expressed in their financial control of the Association by overwhelmingly passing the motion for an increase in fees at the S.G.M"

Forum, the gathering of the witty and informed students on the Campus every Tuesday has succeeded in capturing the interest of about seven hundred students. Organised by Treasurer and Joynt Scroll debater, Tony Ashenden, the Forum got off to a flying (round the world) start with Peter Blizard extolling the virtues of starting a Flat Earth Society in New Zealand. At the second Forum subjects such as punishment, and whether or not it be justified, understanding homosexuality. Student apathy, and bursary payments at the beginning of the first term, were discussed. Forum is held on the grass plot outside the diningroom every fine Tuesday at 1pm.

The Radio Club is hoping to provide a paging amplifier system throughout the S.U.B., as well as an amplifying system for the Memorial Theatre.

A television set will be installed in the Student Union Building next year.

Russell Campbell, Political Editor of "Salient", recently Interviewed Albert Henry on the Cook Islands. This Interview, which was printed in "Salient", has been translated into Maori and cyclo-styled for distribution in the Cook Islands by the Cook Island's party.
