Salient: Victoria University Students' Paper. Vol. 27, No. 9. 1964.

John Patterson

John Patterson

John Patterson is a fifth year Law student and this, his first sally into Executive Elections. A keen skier he has been on the University Ski Club Committee for four years, as well as playing rugby for one of the University Social teams for three years. As a supporter of Extravaganza he has actively participated in the show for four years in the male ballet and is now quite a serious challenge to Margot Fonteyn.

HE was on the Victoria Senior Tiddlywinks team last year, but spent the latter part of the season on the bench owing to a sprained thumb.

His policy regarding sport is aimed at destroying Vic's supremacy in holding the wooden spoon at tournaments.

He considers that more incentive should be supplied to encourage greater student participation in sport. More participation should mean more team spirit and better results. By way of incentive he suggests higher subsidies for fares when attending tournaments, more recognition for holders of University Blues (Can you point out a blue holder in the cafe? Do you know what a Blue is?), some form of recognition for persons not up to Blue standard but who, nevertheless, contribute strongly in their field of sport. John would work in close co-operation with Sports Committee, which would provide an adequate liaison between Exec, and sports students. He feels that encouraged and supported by Exec, and students, our sporting teams will go to tournament playing for Vic to win.
