In connection with the Ten-Year Plan, the Italian universities will be provided with 43 billion lire, according to a legislative bill passed by the Council of Ministers in January. Upon the intervention of the National Union of Italian University Students (U.N.U.R.I.) and the student representative bodies, six billion lire more were approved for the construction of student hostels, for co-operative book shops, for the student health service, and for cafeterias, (ateneo, Turin).

An International Student House, in which a total of 500 students can obtain quarters, was recently opened in Rome. 200 beds are reserved for foreign scholarship students, the others are at the disposal of travelling students. The Student House contains lounges, a bar, reading rooms, a conference hall, in which plays can also be staged, and a restaurant. A cultural programme for the foreign students provides lectures and documentary films on Italy and meetings with personalities from academic life. (Tribune de Geneve, Geneva).
