Men In A Boat

Men In A Boat

Tournament Rowing was held on Easter Saturday, at the Koro-koro Course, in strong northerly conditions. The wind, however, only affected the first half-mile of the two mile course; the rest proving ideal for rowing. The Blues selectors and well qualified spectators, agreed that the regatta produced the highest standard of rowing ever seen at a University Tournament.

The programme consisted of five races with some extremely close finishes. Canterbury won the regatta with 6pts., Victoria was next with 4pts.

The Eights race was won by Canterbury after a do-or-die struggle with Victoria. Both these crews left Otago, who suffered a mishap early in the race, and Auckland well behind to fight out a spectacular finish. Canterbury won by a mere three feet. Seven crews lined up at the start of the Fours and were away to a good start. The race again was strongly contested, with Otago University No. 1 home by a foot from Auckland University No. 1 who were only a canvas ahead of Canterbury University No. 1.

Lincoln, in this only race, won the Double Sculls easily from Victoria, with Otago University third.

A N.Z.U. crew raced against the Rest over a mile course, providing again a thrilling race The Rest won by a canvas.
