"Student amenities at VUC are shocking, deplorable and scandalous, and it is up to us to do something about them Now," writes Antony Wood.

Tony is a second-year Arts student with plenty of experience in University affairs: On the committees of three clubs, including treasurer and co-founder of the Social Democrat Society, in Extrav '55. at Congress '56, member of Debating. Free Discussions, Anglican and Film Societies, Socialist Club and SCM; actively participated in functions of the Tramping, Tennis, Drama, French and other Clubs. His programme includes:

Common common rooms: The men's and women's common rooms should be changed respectively to a common reading room and a common lounge, available for evening meetings and with nearby supper-making facilities.

Men's lockers should be provided.

Co-ordination should be arranged between Training College and VUC to promote co-operation and prevent clashing of functions.

Pressure for immediate commencement of Student Union Building.

NZUSA: Drinking Horn should have no official or semi-official acknowledgement; liquor should be legalised at Congress; the Winter Tournament should be expanded to include music, chess, discussions, etc.

This is a constructive programme and I am prepared to fight for it if you give me your backing with your votes."
