[Report to the exec. on the union building]

page break

Reporting to the Exec. on the Union Building, Mr. Iles stated that it was hoped to have called for tenders and started building before the General Elections in November. This would mean that if there were a change of Government the new administration could not shelve the project. When approached by a "Salient" reporter, however, the Right Honourable Walter Nash, Leader of the Labour Party in Parliament, expressed his pleasure at the decision to commence the Student Union Building, and in addition said that he would regard its construction as a special priority. The Student Building would satisfy many essential needs and he hoped that the work would begin at an early date.

Mr. Nash added that he would support the extension of further hostel accommodation.
