The recipe as before

We sighed with relief when we heard that the Wooden Spoon wasn't going away from us after all. In spite of obvious lacks in the coaching and training departments, some people had the silly idea that we might lose it this year: this worried us too, because though we were curious we couldn't see how we could, unless someone had been training behind our backs. But we can rest assured now.

No one has yet suggested that we lose because our reps are "just sent to Tournament for experience." We wouldn't believe it anyhow: the reason for the loss is as usual sheer apathy—worse, complacent apathy.

One question—are the consistent and enthusiastic members sent away even if they're not record breakers? They should be. Too many bright boys rest on their laurels and skim into teams for Tournament just the same. Maybe selectors could give this more thought next time. It can't harm us—whatever we were born with, we're due to die with a Wooden Spoon in our mouths.
