The needs..

The needs...

1.Cafteria to seat a minimum of 200.
2.Canteen to sell cigarettes, confectionery, drinks, matches, note-papers, badges, and anything else required. If necessary there can be a bookshop in this canteen, or run separately.
3.Common common room to seat a minimum of 150. This room may be devided into two if needed, to avoid a barnlike feeling.
4.Men's common room to seat a minimum of 100.
5.Women's common room to seat a minimum of 75.
6.Gym facilities based on the needs of the largest area for any one sport—say, basketball court, 100ft by 60ft

The facilities should allow for—Possible Phys. Ed. arrangements including Women's Gym Club.

Following sports clubs: Athletic, three basketball, boxing, cricket, defence rifles, soccer, harriers, two hockey, Rugby, swords, table tennis.

Provisions in basement for miniature rifle range 6yds by 30yds.

Small tepid pool in basement similar to that in Otago Medical School, 25yds by 15yds. Depth 3ft 6in. to 4ft. Temp. 70deg.

Storage space for equipment for above clubs, together with ski, tramping and tennis clubs.

7.Showers, changing rooms, wash rooms, locker rooms.
8.General storage facilities.
9.Two rooms for meetings, of 20 capacity; one of 50 capacity.
10.Two rooms for college publications, one twice as large as the other.
11.Small kitchen facilities for after meeting suppers.
12.Facilities for any medical scheme instituted.
13.Sick bay.
14.Photographic dark room.
15.Sound proof room, for small recitals by glee clubs and music clubs, or outside artists; capacity 50 people.
16.Theatre with raked floor with an auditoriym for 450 people. This should have—
  • A projection box.
  • A properly equipped stage.
  • Adequate dressing room facilities
  • Space for building drama and
  • extrav. props.
  • Space for stage of these.
17.Association offices. This should be a suite of rooms, at least three; to comprise business office, typiste's office, executive meeting room, public phone boxes, building intercom, system.
18.Large meeting facilities should be provided by use of gym for big functions, and by arranging common rooms so that they could open by theatre.
19.Flat for caretaker and rooms for cleaners and their equipment.
20.It is suggested that dancing facilities should be provided by gym and opening common rooms.
21.Space for Association records.
22.Provision for heating in basemen.t
23.Letter racks are needed and these would have to be fitted into most suitable rooms.
24.The possibility of provision for one or more billiard tables as well as permanent table tennis facilities for non-club members might well be considered.

Note: It is not intended that facilities should be given for a hall for anything from 1000 to 2000 people. This is a matter for the University authorities, and is beyond the scope of the student body.

Some of the above facilities will need to be combined into the same rooms.
