Blues and Double Brown

Blues and Double Brown

Dear Sir,

It was with interest that I saw in the last issue of "Salient" the names of the winners of the Blues for Winter Tournament. Blues were presented for fencing, shooting,. basketball, and drinking. Three of these people are to be congratulated for, their own particular achievements for they have spent up to eight hours a day training and the award of Blues to these three is fully justified—but what can be the possible merit in awarding a Blue for drinking. Do the interested people spend eight hours a day training for that Blue. We are all in favour of a bash, it's good fun, but why should the highlight of the party be ranked equal with the hero of the track or sword or rifle?

I do feel that if Blues are awarded for drinking. Blues should be presented for activities that raise the tone of this college a little above the/bar-room level. Drama and de bating have been neglected long enough; cannot we now recognise the importance of these two activities and give them due praise. After all. VUC Drama Club did win the Winter Tournament Drama Competition. What recognition did they get?

Disgraced.
