Building Appeal
Dear Sir,—
It is now obvious that our building fund apepal is going to fail, due, may I suggest, to the inoportune timing of the appeal. Students at this time of the year have nearly all settled down to the serious work of the year and have no time for other than the immediately essential extra-academic activities.
May I recommend to the Building Committee through the columns of your paper, that the appeal be reopened in November after the main rush of finals, and remain open to March of 1949. Opportunities for earning extra cash in the long break are more plentiful than at present. I feel sure there are very few students who would refuse to turn out if work days, as for the ISS appeal were organised during the summer vacation and possibly the committee could arrange trips to the fruit-picking districts for the full-timers.
The committee has suggested several occupations which would "bring in the dough," but why don't the committee set up a labour bureau where students can choose jobs near their homes, and where a citizen of Wellington can turn in that odd job to be done.
Nga Nath-Fhacail.
