Valley

Valley
Lurching from side to side.
There scrambled beneath my feet.
Lava brittle and green, coke
Frozen by the rust of time;
Polypedes and snakes sleeping
In the hollows of the walls;
A regiment of untouched bows,
Rising to an unsung descant,
And behind the frenzied conductor.
Thrashing, phantom pines.
The wires whined in the wind;
A shadow fell across my face,
A throb, with grind and rasp
The leering faces heaved
And slowly toppled in;
Pantechnicon of granite
Belched down, and bleeding streams
Of liquid, wispy mauve;
Down there I saw in fear
And knelt, and screamed,
