Disdain

Disdain
The calm appraisal of your eyes
Leaves nothing to chance;
Would compass all with a glance
As the tall wind, hills;
But its astonishing candour quite fails
And doesn't really surprise.
And though I see and understand
I keep myself apart
Waver towards you through the water
Lean towards you with my laughter,
And bend away the heart
You would sift as sand.
On the glacier edge I pause,
Time runs down the clock,
I stand on the brink
Beyond which I dare not think
Entranced by your ice-deep, ice-old eyes; '
But no man can look very long at a sunrise.
