Benighted Nations
"The time has come." the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things.
Of Unity—Fraternity—
Atomic Bombs and things."
The Snail replied: "Oh, yes! Oh, yes!"
And gave a look askance.
"This holiday is pleasant but—
Let's talk if there's a chance."
"What matters it if words don't flow?"
His scaly friend replied,
"There'll be another Peace, you know—
If this one does subside."
"The further off from this one,
The nearer to the next.
So turn not pale, beloved Snail.
And do not be perplexed."
Shout—and—roar—and—thump—and—claw,
And—drink—and—dine—with Us!
Drink and dine—and dine—and drink
And—drink—and—dine—with—Us!
You can really have no notion
How delightful it will be
With Democracy for porpoises
Photographers for me.
So do not fuss, but join with Us
And let our public see—
This meeting is Much Better—
Than future ones will he.
