AGM Report Min. Rifle Club

AGM Report Min. Rifle Club

After hopes in the early part of the season for a large club membership, the committee was disappointed to see the membership taper to some dozen regular members. It is hoped that in the 1946 season competitions within the club wilt be arranged such as to hold the enthusiasm of the less successful shots.

Two teams were entered for both an NZMRA "Own Start" competition and the local WMRA "C" grade inter-club competitions. Although no great success was attained, the committee feels that the experience gained by the younger members will stand them in good stead in subsequent competitions.

On account of the late starting of the WMRA competitions, it was found necessary for both teams to default all matches immediately prior to and during finals examinations. Consequently a large number of points were lost as this covered some four matches. The committee is assured, however, that such a step will not be necessary this year as an earlier commencement date is expected.

Ammunition has been the biggest question for the past year and rationing was imposed early in the year, but the new season finds us with some 2,000 rounds on hand and hope for the loosening of the import of target ammunition in the coming season.

Throughout the year the standard of shooting improved considerably and in some of the later matches a number of members had reached "A" Grade scoring. Easter tournament, 1945, was held in Wellington and through the courtesy of the Ngaio-Onslow Club, the 100 yards range near Ngaio was used. Weather conditions were most favourable and some good scoring was seen.

The following committee was elected at the annual general meeting for 1946:
  • President: G. A. Peddle.
  • Chairman: John Ziman.
  • Vice-Chairman: Geoff Streeter.
  • Sec.-Treasurer: D. S. Milnes.
  • Committee: Jean Priest, Derek Manchester.

Shoots are held on Tuesdays, commencing at 7-30 p.m. at the Buckle Street Range and attendances this year have been very encouraging.

Our President. Mr. G. A. Peddle, has kindly donated a cup which will be called the Peddle Cup and the rules governing the award set down in the club rules. Mr. Peddle also intends that a small annual trophy held by the winner shall be awarded. The trophy rules require the highest aggregate from five out of eight shoots, one of which to be a compulsory outdoor shoot.
