Salient. An Organ of Student Opinion at Victoria College, Wellington, N.Z. Vol. 2, No. 1 March 8, 1939

J. A. Ongley

J. A. Ongley

Since Victoria College regained senior cricket status in 1925-20 there have been many notable players who have come from its ranks, including two who have gained New Zealand honours. Names of post Victoria men who have achieved marked success at cricket come readily to mind.

Now Joe Ongley has become the third member of a Victoria Vanity eleven to gain his New Zealand cap, and members and supporters of the club will be happy that this fine young cricketer has received early recognition of his work.

Joe Ongley is a bat reminiscent of Merv, Wallace, a beautifully free fast-scoring batsman. He is correct, polished and dashing. Joe Ongley should develop into the finest bat this club has produced.

Congratulations, Joe, and good luck!
