Swimming Club

Swimming Club

Many freshers will be reading this who have been Interested in swimming at school; maybe they have proudly carried off prizes at the school swimming sports: perhaps they have Just dabbled in the sport; but every one of them, be he a good, bad, or Indifferent swimmer, will be a welcome member of the V.U.C. Swimming Club.

If you have read your S.C.U. handbook assiduously—and you ought to have done—you will see that the Club holds weekly evenings at Thorndon Baths. At these club nights, handicap races are held—diving and novelty events also—and freshers will be welcomed at the few remaining Wednesdays this season. As these nights are almost the only times when the Club as a whole meets together, we recommend that all those who are Interested make sure of attending all club nights.

On Wednesday, March 15th, the annual Inter faculty Carnival will be held at Thorndon Baths, at 8 p.m., and every fresher, whether he enters for any races or not, should make a point of attending. There will be a splendid programme, including special races for freshers.

The swimming season so far has been extremely successful, despite most unfavourable weather on almost every club night. A. Taylor, of Training College, is now the, Club's first string, and there is every possibility that he or another representative will capture a title at Tournament. Miss S. Hefford, if she trains, has an excellent chance of winning the ladies' breaststroke event.

The Polo Teams, despite a certain difficulty in getting enough members to put two teams in the water, have actualy won more games than they have lost or defaulted. Although, owing to the frigidity of the water, the keenness has not been as great as last season, it is so substantially in advance of other previous seasons that it is still phenomenal.
